Time Is Running Out

So, the AIDS Walk date is slowly approaching (May 15th) and I only have in 50% of my goal. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far. But I've got $125 more to go and I'm accepting all donations, no matter how small. You can donate online at my personal page:

Thanks for your help!

All Aboard...the Yarn Bus!!!

There is a yarn shop about an hour north of the city in Irvington, New York. It's called Flying Fingers. It's a cool little place and a cool little town. But the best thing about going to Flying Fingers...is the Yarn Bus. It's a free shuttle service between Manhattan and Irvington and the bus, as you can see, has balls of yarn and needles on the top of the van...brought to you by the same folks that designed the Oscar Meyer wiener truck. On the bus, they give you a free set a needles and encourage people to root through a basket of yarn to work on patches for afghans that are donated to homeless shelters during the ride. It's definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Where Do I Fit In?

I have applied to 2 jobs within the last couple weeks. One place said I was too experienced and the other place said I wasn’t experienced enough. I’m especially frustrated at being told I don’t have enough experience. All I’ve ever done is some form of retailing and guess what, it AIN’T rocket science! You don’t need a friggin PhD to maintain an open to buy. I’ve done it before and just because I’ve recently worked in non-apparel channels does not mean that I can’t do it again! Everyone I ever speak with tells me what an impressive resume I have, so why can’t I find a decent job? People can keep that bullshit comment to themselves from now on!

My Extended Weekend

Why are days when you call-in so much sweeter than scheduled days off? On Friday, Christian and I drove down to Atlantic City. It was my first time and I had fun. No, I didn’t gamble but we saw a comedy show, went to a karaoke bar and walked the boardwalk. The city itself is actually quite ‘hoodish’ and I was surprised at that. It’s set up so you don’t even have to leave the casinos if you don’t want to. Each casino is like a little city unto itself with tons of shopping , restaurants, clubs and shows. There are bridges between them and they all have doors that open to the boardwalk. And I have to say that Trump Taj Mahal is so unbelievably large! You can tell that Trump did not grow up with any money because everything he has a hand in is so overly done.

Knit N Tattoo?

Last weekend, my friend, Michelle, was contemplating a tattoo. So I went into one of the many tattoo parlors on St. Mark’s Place with her. There was a girl sitting near the window and she was knitting. I had mastered knitting, but was having trouble purling. So I asked the girl if she would show me how. She made room for me on the bench, showed me, and then let me try a few times. No attitude, no weirdness, just good ole’ wholesome friendliness! The world would be a much better place if we all learned how to knit!
